As we launch into the third week of April, DE Group, Inc. is observing Volunteer Recognition Day. We want to extend a huge thank you to the many members of our team who spend their weekends volunteering for local disaster relief and housing initiatives. Much like a roof, a community is only as strong as its supporting structure!
Our field operations are currently prioritizing commercial diagnostic audits. With the high reaching 32°C today, we are taking advantage of the clear skies to use infrared thermography to identify sub-membrane moisture, allowing us to catch leaks before they cause structural damage during the next “rainbow” season.
📉 Market Insight: JM Price Hike & The Solar Boom
Today is a critical “pivot day” for both the commercial and renewable energy sectors.
The Johns Manville Reset: As of today, April 20th, the scheduled price increase from Johns Manville is officially in effect. This move, driven by global oil market volatility, impacts the cost of raw materials used in the majority of JM products.
The “Age of Electricity”: The International Energy Agency (IEA) released its 2026 report today, confirming that solar PV has become the largest contributor to global energy growth for the first time. Solar now accounts for 25% of all energy supply growth, significantly outpacing natural gas.
Storage is Key: Battery storage is now the fastest-growing power technology, with 110 GW of new capacity added this year. For our clients, this means that pairing a new roof with integrated solar and battery storage is no longer a “luxury” upgrade, but the most stable hedge against rising utility costs.

DE Group, Incorporated (Formerly Dependable Roofing USA) originally began as the residential asset management (installation/repairs/maintenance) and commercial/industrial division of the well-established family-owned company, Dependable Roofing, Incorporated.
This division has gracefully evolved into it’s spinoff venture broadening its scope into complementary and adjacent segments of the construction industry, while still remaining family-owned and proudly headquartered in Walnut Creek, California.

Their thoughtful approach reflects a deep commitment to both craft and creativity, reminding us all of the impact architecture has when it is designed with both purpose and beauty in mind.
Trim House by Robert Konieczny + KWK Promes
The Trim House, designed by the renowned Polish firm KWK Promes (led by Robert Konieczny) and completed in 2025, is a masterclass in turning a regulatory setback into a geometric triumph. Located in a forested suburb of Vilnius, Lithuania, the project emerged from a crisis: the original design was nearly complete when a 2017 change in local zoning laws slashed the allowable building footprint by 50%.
Instead of abandoning the site, Konieczny “trimmed” the house by 40%, resulting in a sharp, triangular floor plan that appears to cut through the landscape like the prow of an ocean liner.
The Architecture of the “Trim”
The name “Trim” is a literal description of the design process. The forced reduction in scale led the architects to distill the house to its most essential functions, creating a more efficient and visually striking form than the original proposal.
The Triangular Plan: The primary response to the footprint restriction was the adoption of a triangular geometry. This allowed the building to maximize its distance from the boundaries while creating a sharp, “flatiron” aesthetic that gives the house a sense of dynamic movement.
The Raised “Night Zone”: To reclaim floor area without expanding the footprint, the private quarters (bedrooms) are located on a cantilevered first floor. This elevated volume provides security and privacy, while the roof of the ground floor serves as a continuous, private terrace for the residents.
The “Ocean Liner” Profile: From the road, the house presents a long, smooth concrete facade that tapers to an incredibly sharp point. This nautical silhouette allows the building to “slice” through the dense pine forest, creating a bold contrast between the geometric precision of the concrete and the organic texture of the trees.
