📉 Market Insight: The “Mueller” May 4th Deadline
As we enter the final days of April, our procurement desk is tracking the final major price hike of the spring season. If you have been delaying a residential project, the clock officially runs out this week.
The Mueller 5–8% Surge: Mueller Roofing Distributors has confirmed a price increase of 5% to 8% on all steep-slope roofing and vinyl products, effective for all shipments on or after Monday, May 4, 2026.
Vinyl Alert: For those planning siding or trim updates, take note: Mueller will implement a second 5% to 8% increase on vinyl products specifically on June 1st.
The “Domestic Shift” in Solar: Following last week’s massive tariff escalations, we are seeing a rapid shift in solar inventory. To avoid the 123% surcharges hitting international modules, we are now prioritizing procurement from domestic partners. This has caused a sudden spike in demand for U.S.-made racking and hardware, with lead times already extending into late June.

This division has gracefully evolved into it’s spinoff venture broadening its scope into complementary and adjacent segments of the construction industry, while still remaining family-owned and proudly headquartered in Walnut Creek, California.

Their thoughtful approach reflects a deep commitment to both craft and creativity, reminding us all of the impact architecture has when it is designed with both purpose and beauty in mind.
Goethe-Institut Sénégal by Kéré Architecture
The Goethe-Institut Sénégal, designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Diébédo Francis Kéré (Kéré Architecture) and completed in 2024, is a cultural lighthouse in Dakar. Located in a residential area near the Corniche, the project serves as the German cultural center’s first purpose-built space in West Africa. By 2026, it has become a celebrated case study for how institutional architecture can be both monumentally beautiful and radically sensitive to local ecology.
Kéré’s design is inspired by the site’s history: it was formerly a lush residential garden. Rather than replacing the garden with a block, Kéré sought to maintain the spirit of a gathering space under a tree.
The Form: The building’s footprint is compact and organic, with curved walls that wind around existing trees on the site.
The Double Skin: The structure features a “double envelope.” The inner core houses the functional rooms, while an outer layer of perforated laterite brick creates a shaded buffer zone. This “skin” allows the building to breathe, facilitating natural cross-ventilation, a necessity in Dakar’s humid, tropical climate.
The Rooftop Terrace: To compensate for the footprint taken by the building, the roof is transformed into a public space. Covered by a light steel canopy, it offers views of the Atlantic Ocean and serves as an open-air venue for film screenings and concerts.
