📉 Market Insight: The “Big Two” Hike is Now Active
The grace period is officially over. As of Wednesday, April 15th, the industry-wide price reset from GAF and CertainTeed has gone live across all distribution channels.
The 8% Reality: Estimates for residential projects using these brands now reflect an average 8% increase. On a standard $15,000 reroof, this represents a $1,200 jump in material costs compared to last week.
The “Cheeseball” Effect: Much like a cheeseball at a party, these price hikes are “center stage” right now. We are seeing secondary manufacturers like Tamko and Owens Corning finalize their own mid-month surcharges to stay aligned with the new market floor.
Procurement Strategy: With the “Big Two” increases now in the rearview mirror, the market is expected to stabilize slightly—but only until the next wave of tariff-related metal surcharges hits in early May.

DE Group, Incorporated (Formerly Dependable Roofing USA) originally began as the residential asset management (installation/repairs/maintenance) and commercial/industrial division of the well-established family-owned company, Dependable Roofing, Incorporated.
This division has gracefully evolved into it’s spinoff venture broadening its scope into complementary and adjacent segments of the construction industry, while still remaining family-owned and proudly headquartered in Walnut Creek, California.

It has been wonderful to see the incredible work our peers are producing right now. This week, we’re excited to share a featured project from Pandolfini Architects.
Their thoughtful approach reflects a deep commitment to both craft and creativity, reminding us all of the impact architecture has when it is designed with both purpose and beauty in mind.
Wildcoast House by Pandolfini Architects
The Wildcoast House, designed by the Melbourne-based Pandolfini Architects and completed in 2024, is an architectural “tactical retreat” located in the rugged coastal dunes of Portsea, Victoria. Designed to withstand the punishing salt spray and gale-force winds of the Bass Strait, the house is a masterclass in defensive beauty. It doesn’t just sit on the landscape; it hunkers down into it, using a series of interlocking volumes to create a private, wind-sheltered sanctuary.
The “Protective Shell” and Sculptural Roof
The architecture is defined by a “hard” exterior that protects a “soft,” warm interior. The roof and facade are treated as a singular, cohesive skin.
Charred Timber Geometry: The house is wrapped in a dramatic skin of Shou Sugi Ban (charred) timber. This material was chosen for its extreme durability and resistance to the coastal elements, but also for its visual mimicry of the dark, weathered tea-tree scrub surrounding the site.
The Folds and Crests: The roofline is a series of sculptural folds that rise and fall to mirror the undulation of the dunes. These aren’t just for show; the varying pitches allow for high-level clerestory windows that capture the northern sun while shielding the living spaces from the prying eyes of the neighboring coastal track.
The Internal Courtyard: The house is organized around a central, protected courtyard. The roof slopes inward toward this void, acting as a funnel for light and a barrier against the wind. This allows the residents to enjoy outdoor living even when the “wild coast” is at its most turbulent.
